Weird: Wood Found on Mars

Sounds like an April Fool’s joke, doesn’t it? But it’s real, snagged off the NASA JPL site.  Sure looks like wood to me. Actually, it looks like a railroad tie. Photo is from the Mars Rover circa 2004. Don’t believe it’s real?
